Home Remodeling

Sustainability is the new master. Be it a thriving business or fluid fashion, sustainability has conquered it all. Ever wondered about remodeling your house to please its new master?

Eco-friendly home remodeling solutions come with triple benefits. They are easy, appealing, and don’t let you compromise on your long-term living goals. If you are still at the crossroad, this article is here to hold your hand on your way to sustainable home solutions. From roofing upgrades to floor repairs, here are a few yet best options for you.

Table of Contents

  • Start With the Floor
  • Switch to an Eco-friendly Toilet
  • Roof That Up
  • Make Way for Energy Efficient Devices
  • It’s Time to Donate Unwanted Items

Start With the Floor

Eco-friendly flooring options have been garnering great responses for the last five years. The most commonly used materials are natural fiber carpets, recycled tiles, wooden boards, and corks. The best part? Well, there are many! Apart from being better for our planet, these alternative flooring systems add a beautiful and natural touch to your space.

Boards like wooden and scaffold are not susceptible to twists, providing a classy finish to the floor for extended periods. The affordability and durability of bamboo flooring have made it a top choice for homeowners.

Besides, bamboo is moisture-resistant and has a faster-growing ability than wooden trees. For carpeting, it’s always best to look for those made out of recycled materials and do not emit VOCs.

Switch to an Eco-friendly Toilet

Choosing an eco-friendly toilet for your home should be on your top list. Statistically speaking, an average American family uses approximately 300 gallons of water at home every day. Therefore, switching to an eco-friendly toilet will reduce water usage per day, to say the least.

An excellent alternative to regular toilets is low-flow toilets, which usually use 1.6 gallons of water per flush, unlike the six gallons per flush in the former. Isn’t it already easier to spot the difference that you are making individually?

Dual-flush toilets and WaterSense are the two types of low-flush toilets that you can choose from. Besides, composting toilets, which do not need water, are great for rural and suburban settings. These toilets work by using natural decomposition and evaporation to recycle human waste.

Roof That Up

Going green with your roofing system might sound a little absurd, but eco-friendly roofs are highly available and look great. A green roof allows for partial or whole coverage of the roof with vegetation. The space over the building is designed to grow plants and flowers.

Moreover, green roofs can be installed without any hassle on commercial buildings and living quarters. Although this type of roof weighs down your pocket a little, the long-term economic benefits will surely propel you to have them. Green roofs or eco-roofs maximize the space available and stick to your promise of environmental sustainability.

If you do not consider the idea of a green roof, you can choose a tile roof, as it is one of the most eco-friendly roofing alternatives.

Make Way for Energy Efficient Devices

How many times do we look for energy-efficient badges on new appliances just to ignore them later? Stop right there! If you are looking to replace your appliances, you should consider energy-efficient ones. Appliances like television sets, refrigerators, room heaters, etc., eat up more power than you can imagine.

A typical family consumes 11,700 kWh of power every year in the USA, standing second in the queue after Canada. To contribute your part in reducing the carbon footprint, look for the energy ratings before buying the appliance.

The higher the energy rating, the more energy-efficient appliance will be. For lightning purposes, use LED lights in place of the Incandescent bulbs as the former requires a lot less power. Also, do not dispose of the old appliances in regular junk.

We suggest you exchange them with the store or look for household recycling collection shops nearby. However, combining energy-efficient appliances with a regular check of power consumption at home will help you achieve your sustainability goals faster.

It’s Time to Donate Unwanted Items

Renovating is not just about decking up fresh; it’s making up space by sharing things you longer need. We often throw up so many unwanted items, which ultimately end up being in the landfill, causing a lot more harm to our planet.

We don’t say it’s not good to make room for new items but disposing of the old ones requires greater attention. It’s always best to donate the things you do not use, provided they are in decent condition.

The items unwanted to you can be of great use to another human being. Goodwill and sustainability are a win-win situation.

With a clearer view, it’s time you walk on the trail you have chosen. Switching to sustainability is easier than you think, so what are you waiting for? Let us pledge together to make this world a better place for future generations!
