Block or Regular Paving: Which is Better?

If you are planning to resurface your driveway, you might be asking yourself this very same question, as you wish to select the best material from all the available options. First. Let us examine the difference between block and regular paving, and the primary difference is the shape. Block paving consists of small square blocks that are made by high compression, and as the block is thicker than a traditional paving slab, it can therefore withstand a lot more weight.

  • Block Paving is Stronger – Block paving will withstand the weight of a motorhome or caravan, while a regular paved driveway might not. Of course, the larger the paving slab, the more likely it will break under pressure, whereas the small, sturdy blocks are designed to take more weight.
  • Block Paving is Semi-Permeable –If the installers feel that drainage is inadequate, they will insert drainage under the blocks, which will allow water to drain away naturally, thus eliminating puddles. When looking at affordable paved driveways in Leeds, you will notice the lack of surface water, which is another good reason to choose block paving.
  • Zero Movement– It is much more likely that a regular paved driveway will experience movement, as the tight construction and density of the blocks, creates a very strong bond. You can confidently park your motorhome on a block paving driveway, while the same cannot be said for regular paving slabs.

Block paving also offers stunning designs, with perhaps two colours, along with a symmetrical pattern, and if you are looking for a driveway that will stand the test of time, block paving is the way to go.
